Rajasaurus narmadensis

A horned abelisaurid theropod described from the Lameta Formation of western India — one of the best-known Indian predatory dinosaurs.

Rahioli, Kheda district, Gujarat, India · Late Cretaceous (Maastrichtian)

Rajasaurus narmadensis was formally described in 2003 from bones recovered in the Lameta Formation at Rahioli, Gujarat. It belongs to the Abelisauridae, a group of predatory dinosaurs found mainly on the former Gondwanan landmasses — South America, Madagascar and India. A low horn-like crest on the skull is one of its distinguishing features.

The discovery helped demonstrate close faunal links between Late Cretaceous India and Madagascar, consistent with their shared Gondwanan history.
