The dinosaur eggs of Raiyoli

Geologists of the Geological Survey of India found fossil eggs and bones near Raiyoli in 1981 — one of the richest dinosaur nesting areas known in India.

Raiyoli (Balasinor), Mahisagar district, Gujarat, India · Late Cretaceous

During a geological survey in 1981, Geological Survey of India geologists encountered fossil dinosaur eggs and bones in Late Cretaceous sediments near the village of Raiyoli. The area is now associated with a fossil park and is among the most frequently cited dinosaur egg localities in India.

Fossil eggs are fragile and scientifically valuable only in context. Removing them destroys the information held in the surrounding rock. Visitors should view them, photograph them and leave them in place.
